InviScreen® STEC Detection Kit provides a real-time PCR method for the qualitative detection of STEC E. coli in food samples. The method is based on ISO 13136 and detects the presence of the stx1 and stx2 genes (associated with cytotoxicity) and the eae gene which is associated with the capability of the bacteria to adhere to the intestinal epithelium and cause disease. The method is applicable to products intended for human consumption and the feeding of animals, environmental samples in the area of food production and food handling, and environmental samples in the area of primary production. This kit includes an Internal Amplification Control (IAC) detection primer/probe set as a process control for the presence of PCR inhibitors. Under optimal conditions, the kit provides highly sensitive detection of at least 3 genomic units of STEC.
